Increasing Productivity with Mobile Demolition Processors
October 21st, 2013

Stanley LaBounty Mobile Demolition Processors are turning heads on demolition sites across the nation due to their increased power and speed. In less than two hours, AlliedBean demolished a 50,000 sq. ft. 3-story concrete office building to the ground using the MDP30R with the Concrete Cracker Apex Jaw Blade. They join a growing number of Demolition Contractors who are finding more projects where the MDP line offer distinct advantages over other demolition attachments. Stanley LaBounty is set to release two new models this year to replace the MDP30R, the MDP27R and MDP35R, which will offer even quicker cycle times and considerable crushing/cutting force increases.

Kevin Bean, President of AlliedBean Demolition, spoke about the MDP30R machine that his company rented from Company Wrench for a demolition project in Delray Beach, South Florida for J Raymond Construction. “We decided from the beginning that we were going to bring in specialty equipment on this project so that we could get this done in a very timely, efficient manner”, said Bean.

With two 50,000 sq. ft. office buildings to demolish, AlliedBean rented a Komatsu PC350LC with the MDP30R to handle the majority of the demolition work. Support machines on-site included a LaBounty HDR Contractor Grapple on a Komatsu PC 200 LC, a LaBounty CP100 Concrete Pulverizer, a Dust Fighter 20,000 Dust Suppression System, and 3 bobcats with demolition grapples and buckets.

Stanley LaBounty released the heavily upgraded mobile Demolition Processor April 4th, 2012, which offers the highest power-to-weight ratios in its class. With its interchangeable jaws, swift lock concrete cutting edges, and a weight-class leading crushing force of 200 tons, many demolition crews are looking toward the MDP line as their go-to tool for its strength, mobility, and versatility.

One of the main advantages of the MDP series is the Apex blade, which is more efficient than any other brand at crushing concrete. The design of the blade allows crushed concrete to flow away from the cutting area, leaving the blade surface free to snap rebar in the same bite. Other similar multi-purpose demolition brands create hype about their changeable jaw sets that can handle multiple types of materials, but in reality, it can waste significant time changing these on site. The MDP Concrete Cracker Jaw can make quick work of pipes and beams without having to change the jaw set.

“I was actually first introduced to Company Wrench and the LaBounty MDP30 by driving by a demolition site in Pompano Beach where a Company Wrench High-reach machine equipped with the MDP30 attachment was demolishing an ocean-front hotel. Through some online research, I found a video of the demolition and was very impressed with it and couldn’t believe how quickly the building was taken down to the ground”, said Bean.

“The first phase of this project was to gut the interior of the 50,000 square foot office building to bare concrete,” said Bean. “This has proven to be the longest phase of the project. We had big challenges on the roof with the tar which required six men on task with three skid steers.”

Once the Skid steers finished the interior strip-out and the tar removal on the roof was completed, the LaBounty MDP30 began work.  “We brought down each floor on top of each other, and as you can see from the video it literally took less than 2 hours to bring this building down to where it is now.”

“Now that the building is down on the ground, we will use the MDP30 to breakup some of the reinforced beams before using smaller equipment with LaBounty Concrete Pulverizers to break up the concrete so that it can be hauled away. We expect the clean up to take approximately 1 week,” Bean said.

Currently working on 5 projects, the Broward County based AlliedBean Demolition crew is looking toward the future with a very positive outlook. They feel the types of projects that would benefit from the MDP30’s capabilities are plentiful. “One of the other projects starting up today is a Cemex cement plant dismantling, three miles south of here in Boca Raton. This machine will be leaving for two or three days to bring down five 50 foot stack silos and a metal batch plant.”

Other projects about to commence that AlliedBean plans to utilize the MDP30 are several multi-building apartment complexes to be demolished in Miami, FL, a Walmart Superstore demolition, and a 6-building apartment complex demolition in Miami, FL. “AlliedBean takes pride in doing somewhat more complicated structural demolition. We get involved in selective demolition so an attachment we would use needs to be powerful while still being agile and very maneuverable.”

Established in the beginning of 2012, AlliedBean is grateful for a very successful start in their region and already employs 17 members. “AlliedBean’s vision for the future here in South Florida is to be the formidable demolition contractor that we know we can be,” said Bean. “We feel its all about team effort and we look toward Company Wrench and Labounty to offer us the best tools in the industry so that we can see our vision through.”

The MDP lineup has undergone recent changes to accommodate a full range of excavators used in demolition (40,000lbs-140,000lbs) and will now include the returning MDP20R model, as well as a new MDP27R, MDP35R, and MDP50R. By adding the new models, they’ve effectively increased the range of the MDP30R as well as added a massive increase in size and power with the addition of the MDP50R.
