A Breakthrough in Engineering that Saves
June 1, 2013

Company Wrench Ltd. is introducing a breakthrough in engineering and design in the world of heavy equipment. CW Machine Worx, the manufacturing division of Company Wrench Ltd., designed and engineered the new patent-pending 2nd Member Hammer machine to help companies save on fuel and shipping costs. This newly engineered 2nd Member Hammer set-up has the ability to mount a 16,000 lb. / ft. hammer on a 108,000 lb. machine, instead of using the same hammer on a 193,000 lb. machine. When working on a jobsite that calls for breaking oversized material, trenching through rock, or breaking concrete, this machine can bring substantial savings in fuel and shipping costs.
Fuel Savings - To determine fuel savings by using a 2nd Member Hammer machine opposed to a 3rd member we compared a 108,000 lb. Komatsu PC490LC to a 193,000 lb. Komatsu PC800LC. The Komatsu PC800 with a 3rd member 16,000 lb. / ft. hammer ran an average of 10.75 gallons of fuel per hour, while the Komatsu PC490 with a 2nd member 16,000 lb. / ft. hammer ran an average of 7.95 gallons per hour. Our research showed a savings of 2.8 gallons with a monetary savings of $9.80 per hour, assuming a fuel cost of $3.50 per gallon. Within an average 40 hour work week, the total savings equals $392 per machine.
Shipping Cost - Shipping costs for the new patent-pending 2nd Member Hammer machine are even more substantial than the fuel savings. The price to ship a Komatsu PC490 is about a third of the cost of shipping a Komatsu PC800. The necessary resources used to transport and assemble equipment, need to be taken into consideration since they help determine freight costs. When shipping a PC800 it requires six trucks, two mechanics, and a crane is also needed. However, a PC490 would only require two trucks and one mechanic. This reduction alone can save companies 70% on the shipping costs for rented and purchased machines. This allows you to use your valuable resources for other projects.
